Hair Care Tips + Tricks

I have always had long hair except for the one time I decided to cut it to my shoulders after my daughter was born. I still consider that kind of long though, I have never done anything super drastic to my hair as far as the length. I do however love to play with the color; more when I was in high school rather then now. I used to be a cheerleader in high school, our colors were maroon, black and white and my hair for a good six months matched my uniform not the black and white haha but it was maroon! I've had black/blue hair, blonde hair (only for a short while) but I have mostly always just stuck with dark brown because its safe, it's my natural hair color.

I was starting to get a little bored with my hair though I wanted a little bit more dimension and it needed a color correction from when I had super black hair and the roots were my natural dark brown. It didn't look that great. So I went to a hair studio here in town and they fixed it for mean completely exceeded my expectations. I was nervous at first to put lightener on my hair because I was afraid of damaging it but it looked healthier then before I went in. And now I just keep going in and getting lighter and lighter! I don't think I will go completely blonde though thats just not my thing, I like to have the brown in there. The thing is though I am not afraid to get highlights anymore because they for one know what they are doing at the salon and two they showed me all of the products I should be using for at home care as well.

I never realized shampooing and conditioning your hair had a big effect on how your hair would be, obviously I knew you should use high quality shampoo and conditioner but I didn't know there was a science behind how you should be washing it. For the shampoo I only put it on the roots and the conditioner I let sit on my hair for a couple of minutes but first I make sure to get the excess water out of my hair before applying conditioner.

This part may not be for everyone because they all have their own preferences but I like to wait until my hair is just damp to put the products in because if I put them in right away after the shower my hair loses some volume. I always go in with a leave in conditioner and  a frizz/smooth serum of some type. I put these on when my hair is damp regardless of if I am drying it with a blow dryer or air drying.

The next part is really important! I always and I mean always use a heat protectant before I put any hot tools on my hair. These are all just a few of my favorite products lately!
